(1): Morgan MATTHEWS / Maxim ZAVOZIN (USA), (2): Nora HOFFMANN / Attila ELEK (HUN)
Hoffmann/Zavozin teamed up in September 2007. Both competed successfully at the international level with their previous partners. Hoffmann is the 2003 & 2004 World Junior silver medallist with Attila Elek. Their partnership dissolved after Elek broke his ankle in a practice accident during the 2007 European Championships. Zavozin is the 2005 World Junior Champion with Morgan Matthews, competing for the USA. They split up in 2007 as well. Zavozin is the son of Russian ice dancers Elena Garanina and Igor Zavozin who competed at the international level. The family moved to the USA. Zavozin started to skate as a four-year-old, but stopped at age 7. Instead, he took ballroom dance classes for four years. He took up skating again at age 13. His mother is part of their coaching team. The couple withdrew from the 2009 European Championships after the Original Dance due to illness.
