Mallory and Rand teamed up in summer 2008. Rand is the 2007 World Junior silver medallist with Grethe Grünberg. The couple won Estonia's first figure skating medal at an ISU Championship. Rand relocated to the USA to search for a new partner after Grünberg retired from competitive skating. Rand's younger brother Taavi is a competitive ice dancer as well and competes at the international junior level. Rand was coached by his mother Lea before moving to the USA.
