Dobbs started skating around age 3 after seeing Michelle Kwan perform at an ice show. She also competed in pairs from 2004-2006 at the juvenile and novice level with Christopher Trefil. Her mother competed at the Junior National level as a swimmer, and her brother is a competitve swimmer. Her uncle played professional baseball for the Texas Rangers. An athlete she looks up to is swimmer Michael Phelps.
