McLaughlin/Brubaker teamed up in spring 2006. Before, Brubaker competed successfully with Mariel Miller at the international Junior level. McLaughlin started to skate because her mother was a show skater. Her mother is now part of the couples' coaching team. Brubaker has three siblings and his brother Collin (three years younger) is an ice dancer and competes at the international junior level.
