Flatt began skating at age 4. Her father took her to shop for a birthday gift for her grandfather, and they came home with skating lessons instead of a gift. She skated pairs with Andrew Speroff from 2001 to 2004. Her grandfather was a national fencing champion. Flatt went back to last season's Free Program after the Four Continents Championships. She also lists Becky Calvin, Becky Bradley, Erik Schulz, Eddie Shipstad as her coaches.
