Liebers' brother Martin (three years older) is a figure skater as well and competes at the international level. Their father Mario is a five-time National silver medallist, competing for East Germany at European and World Championships from 1976 to 1980. Peter Liebers broke his leg in fall 2006 and missed the whole 2006/2007 season.
