Pöykiö is the first Finnish Lady ever to medal at an ISU Championship (bronze medal at the 2001 World Juniors) and won the first medal for a Finnish Lady at the 2005 European Championships (silver). Pöykiö started to skate because her elder sister Heidi skated. Pöykiö changed coaches after the 2005/06 season and is now coached by her sister.
